Her name identifies an industry. Say "Charmayne" and it's like dropping Babe Ruth's moniker or Michael Jordon's or Lance Armstrong's. People who don't even follow the sport know that Charmayne James is the greatest barrel racer of all time.
Her record speaks volumes. She's the all-time leading money earner in the sport – the first-ever million-dollar earner. She's won the most professional barrel racing world championships (11) and was the first Women's Professional Rodeo Association member to earn the coveted #1 back number at the National Finals Rodeo. She holds the record for most consecutive NFR qualifications (19) for men or women, and she's won more individual world championships than any other woman in professional sports. She's also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Charmayne conducts barrel racing clinics that are booked years in advance, and she's in demand as a speaker/clinician at horse expos and events worldwide. She's been featured in every major horse publication, as well as in Sports Illustrated, People Magazine, USA Today and others, and has appeared on "Good Morning America," the CBS "Morning Show," ABC "Wide World of Sports," and other major programs.
In her book, Charmayne shares the training techniques and philosophy that made her the most successful barrel racer in history. Also included are vignettes of horses and riders that illustrate Charmayne's approach to identifying and correcting problems in barrel racing, as well as examples and experiences from over 20 years as a world-class competitor in this exciting event.

I was extremely disappointed at the low quality of this product, which I can only contribute to poor writing by the co-author Magoteaux.

I have been Barrel Racing for 2 yrs with good success . After reading this book cover to cover I was able to shave 1 full second off our time in the same arena . I hope to put all the information to good use and keep shaving off thoses seconds . May be the NFR Next Year ?

5Exceeded my expectations!  Mar 10, 2006
This book is awesome. It explains in depth her training techniques, feeding programs, exercise programs, etc. Also, it's like an inside view of her life with barrels. I watched her training DVD first, and this book is BY FAR more helpful! It's inspiring, extremely helpful, and motivating. Not only did the book improve my times in the arena but also my relationship with my horse. It's a book that I will re-read for years to come. In my opinion, this is the best barrel racing book there is, period.

Absolute must. After reading it, and did some changing, my time and consistancy improved overnight. I am now running much better times.
