WONDERFUL! Jan 14, 2007 I have read this book over 150 times, and I LOVE it! Perfect book for ages 7-10! Even older kids seem to enjoy it! It is a great tale, and everyone should read it!
Not bad, not perfect Feb 20, 2004 This was the kind of book that you read on a lazy summer day if you love horses. It was interesting reading about the main character's recovery (over her fear) after breaking her leg. "All for a horse" has extensiove photographs taken in the early 1980s as illustrations that seem to date the book more than its plot. Overall I think that the kindness that the girl shows toward Sparkler is admirable and makes for a good horse novel. Additionally the romance in the book makes for a nice light reading.
TWO KINDS OF COURAGE Mar 27, 1999 After a minor riding accident teenage Garnet is afraid to ride her horse again. When her mother insists on selling him to an eager neighbor, Garnet develops a passion for a neglecteed 2-year-old Arabian whom she discovers by chance. This spunky heroine, with an understanding (or ditzy) mom and a snotty older sister, demonstrates admirable patience and perseverance, as she undertakes to gentle and train her beloved new pet. But can she trust Humans as much as she trusts Sparkle? She must rely on a new friend to help her overcome her equine fears, but she shows great moral courage in the Trail Class competition. This slim volume contains many terms for horsemanship, plus sound advice on prepping a horse both for riding and showing. Horse-loving girls will enjoy this 95-page read.
